In this powerful conversation, Professor Martin Aghaji — a top Igbo heart surgeon — raises an urgent alarm about avoidable trauma from road traffic accidents remaining Nigeria’s biggest killer and the growing cases of sudden collapse and death from heart disease, diabetes and cancer among Ndigbo.
He reminds us that true wealth begins with good health, and that illness weakens not just an individual but an entire family. He calls on Ndigbo to return to our natural traditions of peaceful homes, wholesome meals, and proper care for children.
Prof. Aghaji believes Ndigbo are uniquely prepared to lead Nigeria out of its current health crisis. But to do so, we must stop complaining, restore our high standards in health and human development, and lead by example once again. According to him, prevention is far cheaper — and far more effective — than hospital treatment.
